Beginning at 7 years old, Watter FreeSpirit has been studying Belly dance for over 25 years. In addition to Belly dance she has studied and practiced other forms of Dance such as, Classical Ballet, Lyrical, Modern, Jazz, K.R.U.M.P., Breaking, Hip-Hop, Percussive Tap Dance, West African, Afro-Haitian, Caribbean, Hula, Native American, Ballet Folklorico, Tarantella, to name a few. The divine gift of her own unique form of Free Spirit Fusion Belly Dance is testament to to this diverse dance background. Her innate talent and the training of her talented mentors have given her a great mode of employ concerning dance and movement. Witness to this are the exceptional performances she provides, of the like never seen and not to me missed. She seeks to move the emotions in a life-changing way. A true professional performing artist, Watter is a California Arts Scholar Medal Awardee. She has been performing professionally since 1992. Watter works, privately, as a professional Belly dancer, choreographer and Instructor in and around the Sacramento and Bay Area. She also works independently as a professional instructor in Rancho Cordova, CA; and for workshops when requested. She is a certified Artist/Instructor for the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Dance Movement Therapy. Being Native American from a mixed ethnic background, Watter thrives on the Tribal Fusion Belly Dance community’s culture of diversity as well as the Belly Dance community as a whole. “As Piscataway/Conoy people, we are black Indians. We believe that tradition is important; it is meant to guide us. However, it is not meant to stifle us. Dance is a sacred part of our traditional prayer and worship. For us Dancers are Spirit Warriors. Dance and Music are sacred to my faith. As such this gift from Creator is part of my unique Belly Dance method. My method is always evolving; Creator is always making it more beautiful by adding something new to it for me. It is sacred to me. It is who I am.” Aside from the world of Dance, Watter is also a vocalist and actor. Soon to be singing at Carnegie Hall in New City, NY in Spring of 2012. |
